Enercon will open a shared services centre at Porto Office Park (POP), in Boavista, during the next year. The German giant is a leader in the wind industry in Portugal and is calling on at least 130 people to work with it in the city in the areas of finance, wind power engineering, research and development, global purchasing, IT, logistics, project management, sales, and post-sales.

“Maintaining its commitment to the quality of the workforce in Portugal, Enercon will expand its presence in the country with the opening of an office in the city of Porto - Centro de Serviços Partilhados Empresariais Enercon”. The announcement was made by the company in a statement where it assumes that the space “will have a capacity for 150 qualified jobs”.

The arrival to Porto is justified by the German’s quest to “diversify its locations and approach a more diversified job market, investing in greater proximity to its main clients, alliances with university campuses and several entities linked to the development of projects in the wind energy area”.

“I look forward to welcoming new young talents to our team and, thus, achieving our ambitious goals”, says Micha Strauss, head of Enercon for the Southern Europe and Latin America Region.

Around 1500 people are already employed by Enercon in Portugal, divided between the two factories that the wind turbines company has in Viana do Castelo and the many service stations for maintenance and support to several wind farms across the country.

In 2019, for the purpose of the first edition of Porto Design Biennale, Enercon installed a giant wind blade, 41 meters high and 8,2 tons, in the middle of Avenida dos Aliados. The goal was to draw attention to environmental protection and the fight against climate change, as the functionality of the wind generator that this type of blade integrates is precisely aimed at producing cleaner energy.

The German company will neighbour the most recent technological centre of sea transport, the giant Maersk, the world leader in technological consulting and engineering, Alten, that acquired the ITSector Porto company, or Concentrix, specialized in outsourcing and in the provision of technical support services and customer interaction.

Considered one of the most modern office buildings in the city, POP is made up of two blocks that integrate the most advanced technological and energy efficiency solutions, with a total of 31.500 square feet of gross construction area plus 15 thousand square feet of outdoor green areas. It includes an auditorium, conference and event rooms, cafeteria with an outdoor lounge area and concierge service, as well as a restaurant, gym and paddle tennis courts.
