The 21st edition of the Porto Open, and for the first time in the history of this competition, three Portuguese tennis players qualified for the singles final. Gastão Elias was the winner on 4th October, as Francisca Jorge lost to the Spanish tennis player Georgina Garcia-Perez.

This competition will go down in history as a 100%Portuguese singles final since 2014 - when Fred Gil won Frederico Silva; this time round, Gastão Elias triumphed over Nuno Borges and won the 2020 Porto Open. This was his 12nd title in singles competition and his 5th in the ITF circuit.

The 20 points that Elias conquered at Monte Aventino Sports Complex will help the Portuguese tennis player to rise in the ranking. Currently in the 507th position, he should escalate circa 75 positions and stand at 430th.

"Is it really important? It's been a while since I won a tournament. I am happy, even more because it is in Portugal", stated Gastão Elias in the end of the Porto Open, a best debut in the most international tennis tournament of the Invicta.

Francisca Jorge played the women's single final against the Spanish tennis player Georgina Garcia-Perez.

The four times champion started gaining ground and played a good first set. However, Garcia-Perez, number 228 at the WTA and holder of one of the fastest tennis serve in the circuit managed to turn the game around and won by 1-6, 6-4 e 6-3.

This was the 12th title for Georgina Garcia-Perez in the international circuit and her second in 2020.

In spite of losing, Francisca Jorge had her best performance at the ITF W25, which grants her 30 points in the world ranking and a first entry into the top 500.
