Field Hospital patient number one was discharged yesterday after 25 days

Field Hospital Porto. has already treated 27 patients infected with Covid-19; 9 out of those 27 were discharged. 

After 25 days in the hospital, patient number one was discharged from the Field Hospital set up at Super Bock Arena - Pavilhão Rosa Mota. The Iranian refugee and a newly mother, resides in Porto. After two negative tests she is considered cured.

The Filed Hospital has already admitted patients from 36 years old to 92 years old, both male and female. The average patients' age is 68 years old.

The majority of discharged patients was set home and the is one that was accommodated at the Youth Hostel, where Porto City Hall set up a reception centre for those people who test negative, but do not have suitable family background.

The average stay in hospital is 14 days; however, there are patients who were there for 25 days. They have already been discharged.

The hospital Porto. started operating on 14th April; all medical staff and personnel are volunteers. Over five thousand meals were served and 22 thousand bottles of water have been consumed since the hospital opened. Circa 1050 waste containers were set up for the hospital, and 8 tons of general waste and 2.4 tons of hospital waste were sent for immediate garbage treatment. Nearly four thousand hospital uniforms and over 3.8 tons of hospital linen have been washed.

The Hospital is set up at SuperBock Arena - Pavilhão Rosa Mota and has capacity for 320 patients. This hospital was assembled in just 17 days by Porto City Hall and its main goal is to alleviate the burden on the city's public hospitals in the fight against Covid-19.

The Northern Regional Medical Association handles the hospital management and the Municipality of Porto supports the majority of supplies, cleaning, meals, hospital waste, just to mention a few. Hospital beds were supplied by the Portuguese Army.

This shows an elevated engagement by the local authority as well as a tremendous effort to commit to fighting covid-19; several entities joined the Municipality in this fight, namely the Northern Regional Medical Association, which enables to relocate elderly in need of medical treatment.

It is worth mentioning that this impromptu hospital is equipped with all the necessary instruments.

This Mission Hospital provides 320 beds, canteen, bathrooms and shower rooms as well as acclimatization system that enables the place to remain at a constant temperature at all times.
