Porto was the city chosen by Wunderman Thompson for the establishment of a new centre of e-commerce excellence. For the technology consultant and creative agency, the reasons are simple: to bet on a strategy of proximity to customers and access the “talent of the North”.

Leader of the company’s e-commerce area, Filipe Silva says that “the great pillar of our expansion to Porto is people, the talent of the North”. In a statement, Filipe Silva, who is also responsible for strategic leadership in the Portuguese market says that “with this new office, we want to shape the work experiences of employees to attract, retain and develop the best professionals”. “For us, Porto is full of talented people, who share the vision we want for our centre of excellence”, he believes.

Having an office that allows teams to be “closer to our customers and other brands that want the best integrated services in e-commerce, automation, and business to business” it is the goal highlighted by Wunderman Thompson’s chief executive, Nuno Santos.

After a global centre of excellence in personalization and marketing automation, opened in 2020, Wunderman Thompson installed a first centre dedicated to e-commerce in Lisbon.

The expansion now to Porto began with 40 employees and seeks to create new growth opportunities for the WPP group agency, but also to focus on the strategy of proximity to the main universities in Porto, to attract talent.

This year, the agency has already admitted its willingness to hire 200 people for the centres in Portugal, focusing on profiles in the areas of information systems engineering, data science and business processes.

Currently, Wunderman Thompson Commerce implements technology solutions, such as artificial intelligence engines and machine learning to optimize sales, and has over 1.700 workers. Present in more than 20 offices around the world. Among the main clients are large global companies such as Nestlé, MAC Cosmetics, Shell, Tiffany & Co, Bosch, Selfridges, or Johnson & Johnson.
