Euronext inaugurated today in Porto its technologic centre to secure European exchange management

Euronext moved from Belfast to settle in Porto. The IT Technologic Centre is located at Avenida da Boavista and will secure the trans-European Stock Exchange management platform of this important company. 

The official opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, the CEO of the company, Stéphane Boujnah, and the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira.

According to Euronext CEO, Stéphane Boujnah, "the decision to move from Belfast to Porto was not an easy decision but we did it for several fundamental reasons. We want our key operations to be located in the main Euronext countries, Portugal is one of them."

The CEO added that "the creation of the technology centre in Porto is an integral part of our IT strategy for the coming years."

The Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, stated that Euronext Tecnhology began operating in "a different city".

Rui Moreira also said that "Porto is not just any city. Its genesis, history, the character it has built for centuries, the commercial and bourgeois vocation gave rise to a different, bold, open, liberal city. Porto is not just any city and today the city is rewarded for having been able to withstand several sieges: the international economic crisis, the national financial crisis, bad political decisions, over centralized policies" the Mayor said.

Rui Moreira affirmed that "today we inaugurated an investment project of great international importance, as is the centre of excellence of Euronext Technologies, responsible for a set of activities with high added value, representing critical functions that support the operation of the various exchanges managed by the group."

The Euronext stock exchanges Group chose the city of Porto to establish a technology centre, complementary to the one based in Paris, and the new location runs in the same building as Interbolsa, a clearing and settlement company that integrates Euronext Lisbon.

This investment in Porto results in the creation of 140 direct jobs. Highly trained professionals and engineers in the areas of Information Technology and development of new solutions and financial services.

The Prime Minister, in turn, declared that "today it was clear that Porto is not only the Best European Destination, Porto is also a great destination for investment and projects of high added value in the European context."
