The first phase of the programme “Desporto para Todos” (“Sports for All”, free translation) opens on 5th February. Thus far, the National Sports Programme has supported 1.341 projects.

The Portuguese Government is to support sports clubs and associations that promote sports under the National Sports Programme; the investment granted is of 1 million euros. According to the Youth and Sports Portuguese Institute (IPDJ), in charge of the programme management, “sports clubs, associations that promote sports and other entities, whose main goal is to enable sports-based projects in Portugal” qualify as candidates.

The PNDpT, which was drafted in accordance with the international guidelines of the movement “Desporto para Todos”, adopts the definition enshrined in the European Charter of Sports, targeted at strengthening the support to regular sports activities, which enable a healthy lifestyle among all segments of the population. The programme also “covers social inclusion (ethnic minorities, vulnerable populations, people deprived of their liberty, youth and children, elderly population, just to mention a few), the integration of people with disabilities and the promotion of gender equality”.

The National Sports Programme already supported 1.341 projects, according to the Youth and Sports Portuguese Institute (IPDJ), in a total investment of 18 million euros.
