The DDD Festival - Days of Dance, now in its last week, features Alain Platel, the paradigmatic choreographer who premieres "Nicht Schlafen" in Portugal, 8 and 9 May, at 9:30 pm. The performance deals with the parallel process between music, which is inspired by Gustav Mahler, and the twentieth century social and cultural problems in Europe.

Other highlight of the show is sound composition by artist collaborator Steven Plengles that uses African polyphonic songs and sleeping animal sounds to create a surprising soundscape.

Choreographer and dancer Joana Castro, premieres "Su8marino", 9 and 10 May, at 7 pm at Teatro Campo Alegre, by Joana Von Mayer & Hugo Calhim Cristóvão and of the Kale Company of Dance.

This performance seeks to show the contradictions underlying the meaning of the word territorial, and at the same time further the discussion of non-globalization and artistic creation itself that, in turn, creates an alternative territory.

According to Joana Castro, "here, the performer is also an observer, he is the audience as well, and the drowning person that emerges as an existential metaphor. How to react to the world around us, where Syria is falling apart, Brazil is sinking, the USA are overstretched and Europe is in danger of suffocation?"

Also at Teatro Campo Alegre, 10 May, at 9:30 pm and 11 May at 7 pm, Joana von Mayer Trindade and Hugo Calhim Cristóvão, feature "Da insaciabilidade no caso ou ao mesmo tempo um milagre", inspired in the Portuguese writer Almada Negreiros. This is both a theoretical and a practical performance, that focus on surfeit, on pattern overlapping, on combining mixed elements, on meaningless.

KALE Dance Company walks on stage at Armazém 22 for the premiere of "Harmida", by Elisabeth Lambeck. This performance explores the physicality of eight dancers and brings about a reflexion on escape, arrival and hope as a fresh start.
