About 30 years ago, the Customs Railway Branch in Porto was deactivated. It will be turned into an eco-track in a foreseeable future. The Municipal Executive unanimously approved this immediate solution, while a public discussion to debate the two possible definitive solutions to the railway branch is being prepared.

This was the agreement reached during the last Executive Meeting, on 22nd June regarding the old railroad extension branch, which was terminated in 1989.

To doing that, Porto City Hall needed to sign a sub concession agreement with IP Património - Administration and Real Estate Management as it is the public entity that manages this old railway branch.

This transfer of ownership to the Municipality of Porto means that Porto City Hall will have no additional expense with that project besides upgrading over the infrastructure.

By moving forward with this simple solution, the Municipality of Porto "ensures the operability and safety of an eco-track devoted to soft transport modes that can be enjoyed by the population".

This is the starting point to initiating the debate with all the political forces in the city regarding the definitive deployment of the Customs Railroad branch, which "should happen in two month's time", councillor for Urbanism, Pedro Baganha affirmed.

However, even with the public debate starting this year, the full implementation of the definitive project will only take place in three or four years' time," hence the "relevance of the eco-track temporary solution", councillor for Urbanism stated.
