The future of cars is already in Porto, and the address is Campo Alegre Street. The company is the Portuguese Critical Software that jointly with the multinational BMW will develop the car of the future.

This joint venture between Critical software and BMW, named Critical TechWorks, is shaking up the car industry as pioneer software to be used onboard BMW cars is being produced in Porto.

The process of targeting Porto as the ideal city to hosting Critical Software offices was supported by InvestPorto, the municipal entity that acts as a non-stop shop for investors at all phases of the investment process, providing tailor-made assistance in order to enhance investment processes.

Critical Software employs 100 people and, in the near future, the level of hiring will be highly furthered.

Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, together with Councillor for economy, Tourism and Trade, Ricardo Valente, attended the opening ceremony.

Porto is a magnet for new business investment, drawing in people and investors from different parts of the globe.

Critical TechWorks is such a business, a new company borne out of Portuguese Critical Software - one of the top utilities in software development with a client portfolio that includes NASA - and the acknowledged German car brand BMW.

"This opening is the starting point of this auspicious partnership between Critical Software and BMW, with the founding of a new company, Critical Techworks, whose mission is to reimagine how the world will be driven in the future", Critical Software official states.

Klaus Straub, CIO and senior vice president of BMW, addressed the new employees the hashtag: #enjoyit.

Kai-Uwe Balszuweit, Software Vice-President and Managing Director for BMW Car IT Software, Gonçalo Quadros, Critical Software founder and CEO, and Rui Cordeiro, Critical TechWorks CEO, also attended the inauguration ceremony.

Porto is thriving with human resources excellence, it is the city of opportunities for inward investment from day one, as Critical Software asserted, since 2017. Once again, the company has chosen Porto, together with BMW, to produce the car that will tell the next chapter in the car industry.
