CoVid-19: Civil Protection issues warning on the epidemiological situation

The municipal civil protection service has issued a Warning regarding the epidemiological situation of the new coronavirus, CoVid-19 enhancing several recommendations to the population in the framework of this Domestic Alert and the International Emergency, which was declared a pandemic by the WHO on 11th March 2020.

The Warning takes into consideration the Order of the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of Health, under the Civil Protection Basic Law, and it covers the whole of Portugal until 9th April 2020,.

This Health Warning is a result of the world epidemiological situation, the increase of cases in Portugal, the progressively expanding of the geographic range, the need to contain potential lines of contagion to controlling the epidemiological situation in Portugal.

In view of that, the municipal civil protection service recommends that the population takes the following precaution measures, issued by the WHO and the DGS (NHS):

1) Clean hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub often;

2) Always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough;

3) Dispose of the tissue in the trash immediately;

4) Alternatively, do the elbow cough or sneeze thus avoiding droplets diffusion into the air;

5) Clean your hands after contact with respiratory secretions;

6) Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands;

7) Avoid contact with people with respiratory infections;

8) Avoid sharing personal objects and food;

9) If you display symptoms such as cough, fever Respiratory difficulty, and you have recently returned from COVID-19 infected areas or if you have been in contact with a person that has Covid-19, call the SNS line 24 - 808 24 24 24;

10) Keep a two meters distance, at least, from other people, especially those that display symptoms such as cough or fever;

11) Avoid standing in all public places and spaces;

12) Favour online or phone contacts;

13) Stay at home, whenever possible;

14) Pay close attention to the information by the National Directorate of Health (NHS) and the recommendations by the Civil Protection and the Security Forces;

Porto City Hall, through the municipal civil protection service, is closely monitoring the situation, disseminating all the warnings that are deemed necessary.
