Next 3 and 4 May, Portugal, and more specifically Porto, will host the Techstars Community Leader Academy for the first time. This unique programme will train 40 previously selected community leaders in the Techstars methodology for creating startup communities. The event is supported by the Porto City Council, Turismo de Portugal and Startup Portugal.

This free initiative - which is a unique opportunity for local leaders to learn this world-renowned methodology - will be part of what aims to become one of the main startups meeting events in Europe: the SIM Conference, organised by Startup Portugal and taking place at the Alfândega Porto Congress Centre.

'We see it as an example of our ecosystem's vitality that we are the first city in Portugal, and the third in the world, to host this programme, bringing together leaders from the entire national ecosystem with the aim of defining a strategy for its development and enhancement', said Ricardo Valente, Councillor for the Economy, Employment and Entrepreneurship.

Registrations are now open

The two-day programme aims to connect and empower participants to build startups communities at local level, create a national plan to develop the startups community and boost a network of community creators who will implement these initiatives in all main regions of the country.

The event is brought to Portugal by 351 Portuguese Startup Association and will select 40 participants with a major impact on the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem. Registrations are now open.

Participants in the Techstars Community Leader Academy will have access to knowledge and strategies, as well as networking, workshops, seminars and mentoring sessions, to stimulate their local startups communities with the development of initiatives such as Techstars Startup Week/Weekend, Startup Grind, CreativeMornings and Tech Workshops.

'The Techstars Community Leader Academy aims to connect all regional communities, co-creating solutions to their local challenges and designing an execution plan at local and national scale', Fernando Jardim, leader of the 351 Portuguese Startup Association reveals.
