Open House Porto is back on 3 and 4 July to showcase the grandeur of the architectural heritage of four cities - Porto, Matosinhos, Vila Nova de Gaia and Maia, which enters the event for the first time. The event is organised by the Casa da Arquitectura (CA) - Centro Português de Arquitectura, jointly with the municipalities of the Porto Atlantic Front, to promote 20 years of architecture and built heritage.

The Open House Porto 6th edition had to be rescheduled owing to pandemic concerns, and now is back for a full programme that features a roadmap with guided tours to 16 outdoor spaces (four in each city). The motto of this Open House edition is “Espaços para Respirar” [“Breathing Spaces”, free translation], and it pays a tribute to spaces that were discovered during lockdown periods, such as farms, gardens, parks and other spaces.

Exclusively organised and produced by Casa da Arquitectura, with the strategic partnership of the City Halls of Maia, Matosinhos, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, Open House Porto aims at continuing to establish itself as one of the most relevant cultural moment of the year.

The curators to this 6th Open House are Graça Correia, architect, university lecturer and author of many book and co-author of documentaries and Joel Cleto, archaeologist, historian and disseminator of History and Heritage and university teacher, widely known by the public for its shows on History at Porto Canal.

All visits are entrance free and, for the first time, an expert in the area will accompany the guided tours.

In addition to the visits’ programme, there are two parallel programmes, namely the “Programa Caleidoscópio” (“Experiência do Desenho”, an activity developed by students, Erasmus students and FAUP alumni; “Percursos pela Arquitetura”, dance performances by the Companhia Instável; and “Eco-Memórias”, a pedagogical activity by the Casa da Arquitectura); and the Programa Plus (concert by Pedro Burmester and the string quartet Sakura).
