CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva with open calls for artistic and technical residencies

The application period for the artistic and technical residency program at CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva for the 2022/2023 season has begun. Open calls for professional artists and companies, Portuguese or foreign, are available until April 4th.

The invitation for artistic residencies is addressed to established or emerging projects, whose lines of work are in the field of contemporary dance, contemporary theatre, contemporary circus, or animated forms and disciplinary intersections.

To select 18 artistic projects of local, national and international scope, and to support their development, this program provides for residencies lasting a total of three consecutive weeks per project, with each artists having the studio available for 24 hours.

Selected artistic projects receive 500 euros (VAT included, if applicable) and accommodation for a maximum of two people per project. They may also be followed up by outside eyes / playwrights previously chosen in the application form.

The jury is composed by Carla Nobre Sousa, co- artistic director of AlKantara Associação Cultural, Cristina Planas Leitão, performing arts programmer of Teatro Municipal do Porto, and Ricardo Correia Carmona, curator of Dance and Performance at the HAU Hebbel am Ufer theatre, in Berlin.

In addition to the artistic residencies, the program also offers four technical residencies, in Teatro do Campo Alegre. Lasting one to two weeks, this open call seeks local and national artists who are in the final stages of creating their projects.

Those selected will have the support of sound, light, video, and machinery teams to develop artistic projects in in an ongoing phase or to deepen/ reassemble existing plays. A sum of 500 euros (VAT included, if applicable) per week of residence and accommodation for a maximum of four people will also be awarded.

Cristina Plainas Leitão, performing arts programmer of Teatro Municipal do Porto, Laura Lopes, performing arts programmer of Teatro do Bairro Alto, and Leticia Skycky, scenic designer, and creator in performance and contemporary dance, make up the jury of the program.

CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva opened on the 9th of June 2021, in the former EB1 José Gomes Ferreira school. It is an artistic residency center and workspace for the performing arts that aims to enable the creative process of artists and fill in the scarcity of working and rehearsal spaces for professionals in the sector.
