The European Commission has approved the application submitted by Porto Municipality to host a Europe Direct Centre, for the period 2018-2020.

Porto City Hall has put forward a working programme under the motto "Europe close to all" and will therefore, continue to be the host institution of the European Information Centre, which comprises all the municipalities of the Porto Metropolitan area.

Porto has been the host of the Europe Direct Centre all over the past years, namely in 2005 and 2008, 2009 and 2012 and between 2013 and 2017.

The Europe Direct Porto is mainly focused on the communication of the high priorities of the European Union by responding to the questions and concerns raised by the public, as well as the production of communication materials and events promotion.

The Europe Direct Information Centres operate as intermediaries between citizens and the European Union at local level. With more than 500 centres throughout the European Union, the mission of this network is to bring the citizens closer to European policies, subject areas, institutions and its representatives.

The main purpose is to boost an active and informed participation.

In our country, the network is coordinated by the European Commission Representation in Portugal.
