The city of Porto once again hosts a new edition of the "International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament – Porto Tennis Club 2022" (ITF Future Series), from October 13 to 16.

The event will bring together some of the top athletes in the world ranking of the sport and will be played on the courts of the Porto Tennis Club, by athletes at senior levels (male and female), singular and in pairs.

The fifth edition will feature some of the best players in the world competing, including national wheelchair tennis players. The Portuguese representation is led by João Couceiro, currently occupying the 139th place in the International Tennis Federation (ITF), followed by Carlos Leitão, currently 182nd and João Sanona, in the 393rd position. Cristiano Magalhães, Paulo Silva, João Sanona, José Machado Sousa and the newcomers, Joaquim Soares and Mário Trindade, will also compete.

According to the organization, it is assured the presence of the top three world references headed by the French Guillem Laget, who occupies the current 23rd place in the ranking and who was also a semi-finalist in the past edition of the International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament. His compatriot Gaetan Menguy, in the 27th place of the ITF, will try to revalidate the title achieved at last September's Open in Setúbal. Geoffrey Jasiak (in 31st place), followed by Spanish tennis player Quique Sicar Meseguer, in 43rd place in the ITF, and German Anthony Dittmar, currently in 51st place in the world ranking, are also guaranteed to participate in the men's category.

In the women's competition, the tournament in Porto will be attended by the French Zoe Maras, in 30th position, and the Spanish Lola Ochoa, in 32nd place in the world ranking and who has already collected 28 titles, the last of which was won last month in Setúbal. The presence of Abbie Breakwell (35th in the world), Elizabeth Williams (39th), Silvia Morotti (61st) and Vanessa Ricci (69th) are also confirmed. This international competition will have a prize money worth five thousand dollars, which will be awarded equally in women's and men's competitions.

Aimed at tennis players with motor limitations, the "International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament – Porto Tennis Club 2022" has the support of the Porto City Council, through Ágora, since its first edition in September 2018. This sporting event plays an important role in strengthening and promoting adapted and inclusive sports in the city.
