The Batalha Centro de Cinema received the Acesso Cultura - Mickaella Dantas access to culture award for the project 'Neighbours: Batalhawood', developed with the Bangladeshi community of Porto. The aim of the award is to highlight organisations that have developed exemplary policies to promote access to culture in Portugal.

The 'Neighbours' project aims to establish habits of sharing and connection between Batalha and the people who live near it. The initiative started in 2022 and was developed in collaboration with its neighbours with roots in Bangladesh, one of Porto's oldest and most significant immigrant communities. The work, supported by visits, talks, meetings in Batalha and in different community spaces, led to the screening of Bangladeshi films for all audiences and the celebration of important dates such as International Mother Language Day and Victory Day, when dinners and different evocative ceremonies were organised.

Created in 2014 by Acesso Cultura, an organisation that promotes physical, social and intellectual access to cultural participation, the Mickaella Dantas Award had 30 candidates, assessed by a jury made up of Ana Sofia Nunes, an artist-mediator, Inês Cóias, an actress and performer, and Sara Cunha, an archaeologist. The ceremony took place yesterday, Wednesday, in Lisbon.
