"Visões Úteis" ("Useful Visions" in English) is an artistic project based in Porto since 1994. A theatre inspired project that invites all involved artists to take part in a very special commitment.

The Portuguese representation of the project, co-produced by Porto City Hall and in the context of the municipal programme "Cultura em Expansão" [Expanding Culture], takes place on July 13, 14 and 15 and it is driven by the will to provide public recognition to the work of agents, entities, collectives and associations in Campanhã, with whom "Visões Úteis" carried out workshops over the past few months. It is also intended to promote the meeting of these groups among themselves and with international artists and collectives that have carried out similar activities.

With free access, these three days of activities provide privileged space for artistic creation, research, meeting and community participation.

The project activities are planned to last two years and will end in 2018 with an event in Brussels, where local communities from different countries will gather.

This project has been evolving comprising both an ethical and political drive, in a sort of continuous questioning about the sense of contemporary art nowadays. As such, projects have been developed together with communities established in the outskirts of cities, confined people, which are later materialised in exhibitions, meetings and film productions

In 2009, "Visões Úteis" established at a headquarters in Fábrica Social, an ancient factory in the centre of Porto. This project has been developing a collaborative work, based on the most recent approaches in the performing arts context in Europe and North America.

"Visões Úteis" is a member of PLATEIA, an association of Performing arts Professionals. PLATEIA is a member of IETM - International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts.

"Visões Úteis" is funded by the Portuguese Government / Culture State Department
