The municipal company Águas e Energia do Porto delivered the first water dispenser to the São João University Hospital centre, which will provide drinking water to the professionals of the Central Operating Rooms, under the project “Beba Água da Torneira, Segura e Amiga do Ambiente” [“drink tap water, safe and environmentally friendly”, free translation].

Nuno Lemos, Sustainability and Environment director of the municipal company, Águas e Energia do Porto, handed a symbolic set of the clean water dispenser to the São João director of Nutrition, Cristina Teixeira.

According to the hospital unit, the water dispenser will be set up in the Central Operating Room, which will help that health professionals carry out their work and have the possibility to hydrate in a safely and timely manner, as they don’t have to exit the work stations as much as they would have to, thus reducing infectious risk possibilities and maximizing working times.

The company Águas e Energia do Porto will seek to extend their offer to other institutions in the city to boost the preference for the tap water, which will have a direct impact on environment and cost, compared to bottled waters, and also by the optimum tap water quality, ensured by the municipal company’s renovated lab.

The water campaign “Beba Água da Torneira, Segura e Amiga do Ambiente” is aimed at raising awareness on environmental challenges, namely scarcity, and water mass pollution,, which will enable a general public awareness on the real value of water and its role in the territory valorisation. Also, this limited resource demands its efficient use under a perspective of the promotion of the circular economy, sustainable consumption and decarbonisation of society.
