The masterpieces of Akira Kurosawa, one of the most acknowledged Japanese filmmakers in the West, are on display at Campo Alegre Municipal Theatre, from 17th September till 30th October.

Seven films, in digital restored copies, five of which were never presented in a movie theatre in Portugal, will be screened at Porto Municipal Theatre - Campo Alegre.

"Cinema partakes so much with other arts? it has features of literature, of theatre, it even has a philosophical side to it, attributes of painting and sculpture, and musical elements. [?] But there is something very special in films, which is purely cinematic. When I direct movies, or when I go see movies by other directors, I am looking for that experience". (free translation)

Akira Kurosawa.

The highlight on this list is the film "Seven Samurai" (1954), one of the masterpieces by Kurosawa, who affirmed: "Na action movie might just be an action movie. But how wonderful it is if that movie can paint humanity at the same time! That has always been my dream, since I was an Assistant Director. After all these years, I dream of reconsidering old drama from this viewpoint". (Free translation).
