Arco Maior is an institution that promotes the professional training of young people signalled by the CPCJ (Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People), so that they conclude their 6th, 9th and 12th school levels.
One in every four Portuguese scientific papers is made in U.Porto
Between 2015 and 2019, the University of Porto was in charge or participated in 23. 8% of all scientific papers of Portuguese scientific institutions. This conclusion is based on the results provided by the Web of Science – WoS (SCI-EXPANDED, SSCI e A&HCI), a database that is at the heart of the Web of Science platform and provides access to thousands of bibliographic references on high level of editorial rigor journals, in several areas.
Casa de São Roque hosts artwork by primary-school students of Porto
“Art is beautiful and sometimes hard to understand”. This and other thoughts are shared by some of the over 500 students of the Agrupamento de Escolas do Cerco that participated in the initiative themed “Descobrir com a arte e natureza. Labirinto de ideias” [“Discovering with art and nature. Maze of ideas”, free translation]. Artwork made by 1st to 4th graders of that school were on display at the Casa de São Roque, in the space Cubo Branco.
FEUP starts the ICT Academy by Huawei and boosts talent
The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) officialised a partnership with Huawei Portugal to implement the ICT Academy, the knowledge and innovation programme by the multinational company Huawei, with the main objective of both enhancing the Faculty’s educational contents in the Information and communication technologies (ICT) area and strengthen Huawei’s rapport with the university milieu in the country.
Doctoral Congress in Engineering boosts research made in FEUP
Two years after the last event, the Doctoral Congress is back from 28 to 29 June, in a virtual format. The event is organised by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).
Round table on the new degree on AI and Data Science organised by the FCUP and the FEUP
The FCUP and the FEUP will debate the state of play regarding the new degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The Round Table gathers on 21 June and joins several experts, from companies and from the academia, to answer questions such as “what are the needs of companies operating in these domains?”, “who are the experts that work in the field of AI and Data Science?”. The Round Table starts at 4.30 pm, at the FCUP’s Library and will be streamlined live via the FCUP YouTube channel.
Upward trend puts U.Porto among the 300 best in the world, says the latest Quacquarelli Symonds Ranking
The latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) features the University of Porto among the universities that have showed the largest scaling in the ranking that assesses the most prestigious Higher Institutions at global level. The University of Porto ranks 295 at world level and, once again, scores first place at national level.
A positive that emerges from the pandemic context is the first U.Porto Fest!
The scene is set: from 8 to 12 June there will be a team of amazing storytellers that will make it through the University of Porto; there will be inspiring stories, life moments to hold on to, collective imagined scenarios, poetry, even, or music and stand-up comedy by former students and teachers that have a strong liaison with the place they used to call “home” and thus create the unique and first U. Porto Fest.
U.Porto new students welcome kit is available for pick up following pandemic interruption
The offer of the welcome kits to the 2020/2021 UP new students will be resumed from 7 to 25 June, at the Loja da Universidade, upon presentation of the respective voucher. The distribution had been interrupted last October, owing to the pandemic.
U.Porto invests circa half a million euros to strengthen support to mobility students
The University of Porto is equipping 75 rooms to strengthen support to mobility students under the Erasmus+ programme. International students are able to attend online classes from especially equipped rooms within the 14 faculties if the U. Porto, as of the start of the second semester.
