CIBIO-InBIO team of the University of Porto discovers new bat species in Portugal

A new bat species, officially named (Myotis alcathoe) (aka morcego-de-bigodes de Alcathoe), has been discovered in Portugal, by CIBIO-InBIO team of the University of Porto, in the Peneda-Gerês National Park. Researchers believe this species can be found in the entre northern region.

Asprela Park is being built in Porto and a new green lung is on its way

The works at the Asprela Park, whose project is led by the Municiaplity of Porto, have kicked off on 21st July, where a "new green lung" will be implanted in the city landscape. The works include stream flow regulation, establishment of water storage basins and the creation of a dam, footbridges, and bike paths adapted to the individual needs of disabled persons or persons with reduced mobility, in a total area of 60 thousand square meters.

Municipal programme invites for an evening with bats and shooting stars

The "Ambiente em Família" activity resumes on 24th July, after the shutdown due to the current pandemic, for two can't-miss activities. The first one to resume is the Evening with Bats - Noites de Morcegos - on 24th July, at Pasteleira Park. The second activity is held on 12th August, at Quinta do Covelo, the perfect time to gaze at a shooting star memorable moment, namely the Perseids. Prior registrations are mandatory.

The water pavilion is granted the "clean and safe" certification by the Turismo de Portugal

The entity Turismo de Portugal granted the "clean & safe" certification to the Water Pavilion, acknowledging that entity's compliance with the health recommendations issued by the directorate-general for health, under the covid-19 pandemic.

Long overdue fulfilment brings an eco-track to former Customs railway

Porto Municipal Assembly approved the contract to establish an eco-track in the former Customs Railway branch, which was deactivated in 1989. The Municipal Executive unanimously approved this immediate solution, while a public discussion to debate the possible definitive solution to the railway branch is being prepared.

Resume must-see exhibitions at the Water Pavilion starting on 4th June

The Water Pavilion, managed by the municipal company Águas do Porto, reopens doors this 4th June, with new rules regarding safety under the ongoing pandemic. Visits are available by way of a prior appointment, with temperature measurement upon arrival to the facility and the mandatory use of a face mask, when entering the building.
