Leila Slimani was at Porto Book Fair to talk about "the dark side of the human soul", in the context of her novel "Chanson Douce" [Lullaby], for which she was awarded the Prix Goncourt, in 2016.

Casa da Música hosts a concert cycle themed Fantasia, from 18 till 29 September. The cycle includes five concerts, and the repertoire will explore the works by Anderson, Bach, Moreira, Beethoven and Kurtag. The opening concert is scheduled for 18 September, with Remix Ensemble Casa da Música scheduled to perform at 7.30 pm.

Queer Porto is back in Rivoli from 10 to 14 October. This is the 4th edition of this International Cinema Festival and the main guest is the American writer Dennis Cooper, who will attend the festival to present the film "Permanent Green Light" that he has co-directed with Zac Farley. The festival's organization also highlights Carolee Schneemann's Film Paintings, a range of eclectic documentaries on how the Queer culture has impacted the fashion industry, the Mont de Dutor and Liad Hussein...

Since time immemorial, animals that are part of our world have captured our imagination, and have influenced several art forms. This influence is particularly true of contemporary jewellery, jewellery inspired by animals that has helped reshape the art of Portuguese jewellers. The range is limitless, from gold, to silver and to precious gems, Portuguese jeweller Luíz Ferreira has created art pieces inspired in the animal kingdom who travelled the world. And still do!

Apart from bargain sales, a book fair is also a place of cultural significance, where people interact with written, sung or spoken words. Novelty this year at Porto Book Fair is the project "Cabine de Escalas", which offers publishing space to small scale publishers.

Porto Book Fair 2018 features a Cinema Cycle that is forged on the right to protest, the idea of insurgence in society towards a rule of state. The cinematographic representation on show at the Fair deals with the topic of revolt, rebellion and the valid objection of society and authority.

The starting point of the spoken word sessions at Porto Book Fair is the correlation between the written and the sung word. Spoken word is a performance art that is word based. That said, Spoken Word sessions are an excellent contribution to the Book Fair's activities programme. The programmed Spoken Word sessions are scheduled for 9, 15, 21 and 22 September.

Municipal Programme Cultura em Expansão convened the city, people embraced the project and the consequence is the arts and culture footprint in the city of Porto. The cultural project is expanding and continues to reinvent itself so as to better cope with all types of stages and audiences.

The city of Porto will host the book fair from 7 to 23 September at the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal and besides the 134 publishing companies represented, there will be the "Cabine de Escalas" project, aimed at hosting small and large scale independent publishing houses, free of charge.

Intercultural communication will be the theme of an afternoon devoted to celebrating different social and cultural backgrounds, in areas such as music, dance, singing, and fashion, at St. Ildefonso Church Square (next to Batalha Square), between 2.30 pm and 7.30 pm.
