The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) has announced the setting up of an application in Spanish used in the treatment of respiratory disease, an investment of 50 thousand euros.

In a statement to News agency Lusa, the FMUP explained that the investment is part of an overall funding of 185 thousand euros from the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A España-Portugal (POCTEP), as part of the CódigoMais project, allocated to activities designed to boost the sector of health in Galicia and the North region of Portugal.

The application labelled INSPIRERS was developed at the FMUP, jointly with researchers from the Research Centre in Technologies and Health Services (CINTESIS).

According to FMUP, this application is aimed at "encouraging patients to comply with the clinical recommendations and the medical therapy regarding chronic obstructive respiratory diseases, by means of an interactive game".

"The lack of compliance to the therapeutics is currently the major problem as it increases the risks of hospitalisation and worsening", the lead researcher of INSPIRERS stated.

The FMUP highlighted that the Spanish version of the application will allow entities from both markets - Spanish and Portuguese - to cooperate and also enable to assess the INSPIRERS performance by the patient side in administering medications throughout the Iberian Peninsula".

The project "CódigoMais" aims at "boosting the development of an innovative ecosystem in the health sector between Galicia and the North Region of Portugal.
