The Cité des Métiers of Porto goes to Paris

The Cité des Métiers in Porto is a project promoted by Porto City Hall within the scope of employability and entrepreneurship and it is setting presence at the Cité des Métiers International network, which will take place in Paris on 8 and 9 February.

The project "Cité des Métiers" is jointly managed by different stakeholder organisations that work as a resource centre with the aim of providing professional guidance and advice on one's professional future. The Cité des Métiers is run according to principles of open access and anonymous use, it is free of charge.

25 years after the establishment of the first representation of its kind, the International Network will take stock of its activity and development and identify what lays ahead as well, in terms of expansion and growth.

The initiative is themed "CdM21" (Cité des Métiers du siècle XXI) and its fundamental goal is to assess the concept of Cité des Métiers, its services, international development and both concept and activity approach, towards designing the services of the future for the 21st century.

This assessment will be undertaken till the end of 2018 and it will enable to redefine the Cité des Métiers Network's strategic positioning.

The presidency of the Cité des Métiers International Network is held by Porto since 2014 and its expansion comprises numerous countries. Currently it has about 32 Cité des Métiers.

In Portugal, the concept is in place in Porto and, in a near future it will be in Cascais. In 2017, over 550 thousand people have benefitted from the services of the several Cité des Métiers, which are adapted to region and population.

Cité des Métiers in Porto

The Cité des Métiers started functioning in Porto in 2006, in the context of the Cité des Métiers International Network, first established in France in the nineties.

This service is sponsored by Porto City Hall and aims at boosting employability and entrepreneurship, helping people put together the information they require regarding their professional paths, namely documentation, workshops, job interview preparation and other.

This service to support citizens is free of charge in the fields of information, consultancy on professions, jobs, training and entrepreneurship.

This initiative is targeted at youth that requires information and guidance, graduates of schools or higher education institutions preparing to play an active role in the world of work or entrepreneurship, active professionals who need relevant attestation of competence and unemployed workers in need of retraining.
