The milestone event is about to begin in Porto: the Forum of the Future 2019, which runs from 3rd to 9th November in different venues all over Porto, as announced by Mayor Rui Moreira and Guilherme Blanc, assistant to the Mayor for Culture and Director for Contemporary Art and Cinema at Ágora, at Rivoli, on 10th October, during the press conference.

Events, personalities, developments, grounds, impacts and views will be raised in the Forum of the Future, whose topical issues are the 500 years of the circumnavigation and the appropriation of identity.

Audiences will benefit from a wide variety of speech and debate events that will gather a prime list of panelists that will share their wisdom with the crowd: Danny Glover, American actor, film director, and political activist; Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nigerian writer whose works range from novels to short stories to nonfiction, especially known for her work on the Biafran war in Nigeria during the late 1960s; and Indian scholar, environmental activist, food sovereignty advocate, and anti-globalization author Vandana Shiva, currently based in Delhi.

These are just some of the 52 invitees, from 15 countries that will be in Porto to debate the most fracturing themes on society.

This years, the Forum of the Future, this major cultural event in the city of Porto, will dwell on the "Voyage", as announced by Mayor Rui Moreira, nearly a year ago, in the context of the closing session of the 5th edition of the Forum of Thought.

Then, Mayor Rui Moreira revealed the leitmotif of the 6th edition of the Forum of the Future and the key word is "Viagem" [Voyage], with the commitment to tap into two milestone events, namely, the 500 years of the circumnavigation voyage and discovery led by the Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan between 1519 and 1521 and the impact of man's journey to the moon half-century ago.

Mayor Rui Moreira, who is also in charge of the Culture Department at Porto City Hall, highlighted the high levels of public participation, evermore drawn to the quality and eclecticism of the programming.

"It makes us believe that it is worth thinking the future from the city of Porto. This was our dream five years ago and it is a dream that lives on", Rui Moreira stated at the time.

After all, this "Voyage" will lead us to the circumnavigation era and to analyse "occupation and appropriation of identity, as well as the profound changes in our civilization".

Now, this is food for thought, indeed!

All events are access free on production of the corresponding ticket, which can be collected at the corresponding venue, on the day of the event, maximum two tickets per person each session.
