The Leiden Ranking rates the U. Porto among the 100 best in the world for scientific performance

The 2020 edition of the Leiden Ranking - Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), which measures an institution's performance across bibliometric results, ranked the University of Porto among the best in the world for scientific performance. 

The University of Porto ranks 153rd at world level and 38th at European Level, in the table that measured circa 1100 institutions from 65 countries, based on scientific data by the Thomson Reuters Web of Science, which provides insight on scientific impact, collaborations, free content and gender.

In this year's edition, the U. Porto stands out as the best Portuguese university in Health and Biomedical Sciences, and in the 149th best at world level.

This year's table also provides insight on topics as Life Sciences and Biology, in which the UP is ranked 78th, Physics and Engineering, which ranks the UP at 201st, in Social Sciences and Humanities the UP ranks 284th and in Mathematics and Computer Sciences, the UP ranks 284th.

Harvard University (USA) takes the lead of the 2020 CWTS Leiden Ranking, followed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China).

The rankings are compiled by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
