Porto City Hall organises a vibrant getaway in town, on 26th July that includes sports activities, such as fencing, pat cycles, and also street entertainment with visits by clowns, sea monsters and colour Brigades.

If you are already daydreaming about these activities, know that they will be carried out in the three temporary pedestrian areas in town that are car free zones for the weekend, with the goal of boosting local trade, inviting people to go outside and enjoying public space in Porto.

This summer in Porto is celebrated in the streets as well, and it turns out it is an excellent new experience, with traders and visitors enjoying public space in a different manner.

So, mornings will be filled with sporting activities, thus comfortable shoes and clothes are in order. Starting at 9am and for two hours, the Passeio das Virtudes hosts a free fencing class targeted at children between 6 and 12 years old, promoted by the Clube Desportivo Foz Porto.

This class features a brief intro on what fencing means and which are the rules to follow. Participants are organised to a maximum of 10 students practising fencing at the same time.

At Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, the day is divided in morning and afternoon activities. Between 9 and 12 o'clock, Patocycles organizes an obstacles in a Circuit race to test the young pilot's Skills.

Helmet and bicycle are provided by the organisation. Applications are done in situ, on a first-come first-served basis.

The same spot will also provide tennis lessons in two micro courts, guided by the Clube Sportivo Nun'Alvares and accredited coaches by the Portuguese Tennis Federation. This activity lasts from 11am to 1pm.

In the afternoon, Passeio das Virtudes will offer street entertainment with five travelling clowns delighting passers-by, between 4pm and 7pm.

All preventive pandemic measures to ensure safe activities are in place.

In turn, the street Passos Manuel will be swept off by sea monsters that will raise awareness on the importance of marine protection.

That same street and Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas will be visited by the "Colour Brigade"! Beware of massive fun that passers-by may experience with artists offering amazing displays of mimics, slow motion movements and ultimately great visual impact.

The EZ Project is also a fun suggestion that will make the wonders of grown-ups and children alike. Go check out!

These initiatives are promoted by the municipal company Ágora - Cultura e Desporto do Porto that will take place at the Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, at the rua de Passos Manuel and in the Passeio das Virtudes.

Other areas in town will offer the same type of entertainment in a near future, with the goal of improving people's enjoyment of public space in the city.

All activities take place in stretches in the city that are car free zones.

Do enjoy!
