Porto Pianofest or the art of listening to classical music

Porto PianoFest festival is back in town, starting on 1 August and running till 9 August. Concerts and recitals will be held at Casa da Música, at the Rectory of the University of Porto and at the Palácio da Bolsa.

This fourth edition kicks off on 1 August, at Casa da Música, featuring the concert by pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva, who will take to the stage with the Jazz Orchestra of Matosinhos at 9pm.

Renowned pianists will gather in Porto, including Spanish José Ramón Mendez, from the North-western University, in Chicago, the American Mariel Mayz, from Hunter College, in New Yok, Nuno Marques, noted Portuguese musician settled in New York, and Director of Porto PianoFest, and also the piano player of the moment and rising star, Judith Jáuregui.

The festival presents concerts and recitals by the "Piano Masters" and is targeted at the public at large. Also on stage will be promising pianists, "Young Talents" to show their worth.

In addition, there will be Masterclasses and Conferences targeted at music students and lectured by renowned pianists such as Pedro Burmester, Judith Jauregui (Spanish pianist) and Oscar Colomina i Bosch (composer/maestro, director of the Menuhin School in London).

On an annual basis, Porto PianoFest offers the city of Porto a varied programme of exhibitions, such as concerts and recitals, and also sponsors young piano students with masterclasses and lectures by renowned artists.

Every year the festival is organised by Porto City Hall and by the Cadenza Cooperative.
