The Municipal Executive gathered on 11th May, in a private meeting held via videoconference and unanimously approved the launch of a new application period regarding the 8th edition of the Porto Solidário project, which monthly supports rent payments and bank mortgages of vulnerable households. For 2020, further funding is over 1.3 million euros. As soon as the public notice is issued, the project advances to applications phase.

The Porto Solidário programme was established in 2014 and this Social Emergency Fund has already supported 2.336 families; by proposition of Councillor Fernando Paulo, this 12 month support programme was extended to 24 months.

The recent amendment to the Regulation of Porto Solidário, was approved unanimously during the last Executive Meeting and it was not related to Covid-19, as it was under preparation. Besides the extended deadline to support rent and mortgage costs to 24 months, the programme also features a 25% reduction of the household effort rate as well as the possibility of beneficiaries applying again if the deadline is about to conclude, and the support is granted from the application date.

The Porto Solidário Programme, created in 2014, has helped 2.336 families by providing monthly partnership to rent or bank mortgages for twelve months.

The programme was proposed by Rui Moreira during the electoral campaign in 2013, and it will now be extended over the next two years, by proposal of Councillor Fernando Paulo.

In total, this programme represented an investment by the Municipality of Porto of circa 5.9 million euros, essential to guarantee the right of housing to the most vulnerable households.
