The rehabilitation project of the Primary School of Bom Sucesso was concluded and Mayor Rui Moreira and his team paid a visit to the school community that now thrives in a quality environment.

The renovation project was a demand from the Parent's Association and the Education Community; thus, the Municipality presented the project in the beginning of 2018 and the result is both the quality assurance given and the opportunity to increase efficiency.

Mayor Rui Moreira declared that the works were concluded within estimate time - one school year, approximately. In the meantime, students, teachers and staff were reallocated to the Infante D. Henrique School, where the Municipality created the temporary necessary conditions so as to minimise constraints.

Everyone is pleased with the results, mostly achieved because the Municipality established a good balance between support services, renovation works and accountability. From day one, and in a continuous manner, there was a clear identification of needs, objectives and functions to fulfil.

The entire renovation process was done through participatory methods and appropriate co-ordination mechanisms between all the parties involved- City Hall, School Community and Parent's Association.

The refurbishment process of the Elementary School Bom Sucesso corresponded to a municipal investment of circa 1.1 million euros.

Porto City Hall will continue to define Education as one of the priority action areas. The Municipal Budget for 2020 allocates 15.7 million euros for education policies, by means of three intervention axes: innovative extracurricular activities, strengthening of education support and the continued commitment to refurbishing infrastructures.

Thus, the rehabilitation of the school network is a main priority of Mayor Rui Moreira's team, with the creation of better conditions for teaching and learning.

Major renovation projects for 2020 include the Primary School of Falcão, the Primary School of Montebello, as well as the Primary School of Nevogilde.

The renovation and/or the resourcing of kindergartens and primary schools with the necessary ergonomic and teaching material and the renovation of IT equipment is also a municipal target for 2020.

Furthermore, in line with the adhesion of Porto Municipality to UNICEF's programme "Child Friendly Cities", Porto will continue to support the three existing Child Protection Commissions in terms of logistical, administrative and financial capacity.
