Porto based- technological company, Blip is distinguished with the British Foreign Trade award

The Portuguese Porto-based technological company Blip is acknowledged with the Overseas Direct Investment Award for its fruitful contributions between Portugal and the United Kingdom. This award is granted to Blip by the UK Department for International Trade, at the British Ambassador official residence in Lisbon, during the 11th edition of DIT Business Awards, on 19th November.

Blip delivers the most inventive sports betting websites, mobile apps and retail systems for five million customers around the globe, and it specialises in Internet and mobile phones software production, dedicated to the development of online games.

The software is developed in Porto and it is totally exported, making Blip a major hub at global level.

Overseas Direct Investment Award highlights the work developed by companies located in a given country, but whose activity and investment regard other markets, as is the case of Blip.

"We are honoured by this award, which is the result of the dedication and hard work of the professionals that make up our team. It is also the outcome of this close relationship that Blip, founded and established in Porto, has with its Mother Company, in the UK and with many other markets in the world", states Hélder Costa, Head of Technology at Blip.

"Any distinctions to Portuguese companies that support and gear the bilateral economic growth agenda are viewed by the Portuguese community as a major increased worth of its internationalisation potential and entrepreneurship drive", explains João Sebastião, Director of DIT Portugal.

Blip was established in 2009 by 3 friends and incubated at UPTEC - Science and Technology Park in Porto. In 2012, the company was acquired by the Paddy Power Betfair (PPB) Group, and today it is considered a high growth global company.

In 2015, Blip has participated in the creation of Porto Tech Hub, the "hub for tech talent, innovation and excellence".

In 2017, Blip was growing fast and becoming the best place to work in Portugal according to the Exame magazine. The company also leads in the workspace and Personal growth categories. Relaxation, informality, and fun accompany hard and methodical work that deserves recognition.

Blip saw a large increase in staff numbers, from 3 to 310 and it has become one of the leading PPB hubs in the world.

The technological company bets on Porto for its main software production centre and thus expanded its presence in the city; it is now headquartered in the parish of Bonfim, in a six thousand square meters venue, a building of architectural reference of the city.

This process was supported by Porto city Hall, via InvestPorto as it contributed both to urban rehabilitation and job creation.
