A career-spanning exhibition of Alfredo Cunha's work for circa 50 years is on display at the Leica Store Gallery. Mayor of Porto was invited by Alfredo Cunha for a guided tour to the exhibition.

"Leica Years" features photographs pooled in grids, mosaics and montages to evoke the work by the Portuguese photographer, who for circa 50 years on the job, worked exclusively with several Leica cameras. The display features a selection by the photographer and each photograph tells its own story.

Porto City Hall is partner to this initiative and Mayor Rui Moreira visited the exhibition this Thursday, 29th September, accompanied by the honoured photograph Alfredo Cunha.

At the end of the visit, Rui Moreira was gifted a customised magnifying glass by Leica Store.

The exhibition surveys Alfredo Cunha bodies of work, his story of a lifetime capturing moments and people trough Leica lenses, from Portugal past and present, from Africa to the Middle East.

Alfredo Cunha began his professional career ibn 1970, in advertising photography and the following year, embraced a career in photojournalism. He was editor for photography in newspapers Público and Jornal de Notícias, and Director of Photography at the Agência Global Imagens. Currently, he develops several editorial projects as a freelancer.

He was also official photograph of the presidents of the Republic, Ramalho Eanes and Mário Soares, and he was awarded the Commend of Great Officer of Henry the Navigator Order. He has published over 30 books devoted to photography, with a special focus on the 25th April, the Portuguese decolonization and the war in Iraq.

The "Leica Years" exhibition is on show at the Leica Store Gallery (Rua de Sá da Bandeira, 48-52). It can be visited from Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 7pm. All DGS preventive health measures are in place.
