Port hosts the third International Meeting of the "Historic Centres under Change - Perspectives of World Heritage in the Atlantic Area" on 22 May at the Episcopal Palace, starting at 2.30pm, in the framework of the "AtlaS-WH - Heritage in the Atlantic Area: Sustainability of the Urban World Heritage" project, funded by the INTERREG - Atlantic Area programme, based on the conclusions that have been drafted in Florence.

The global purpose of such study, jointly carried out with Florence, is to design tailored sustainability plans of each WHS, by means of an integrated and participative management and monitoring model, based on the common know-how and best practices.

The AtlaS.WH - Heritage in the Atlantic Area, focuses on finding global methodologies and solutions to addressing common challenges that affect Urban World Heritage Sites, namely by stimulating heritage-led economic and cultural development, following the conclusions of the "Diagnosis Study of Urban World Heritage Sites in the Atlantic Area".

Santiago de Compostela led this Study, and the findings were presented in Florence, on 6th and 7th November with the participation of Porto, Bordeaux, Santiago de Compostela, Edinburgh and Florence.

Nowadays, the challenges facing urban landscape are multiple, as such it is vital to strengthen conservation and management strategies in local and urban planning processes, without encroaching on the different traditions and cultural specificities of each region but rather spotlighting heritage in the special development process that must be built towards urban sustainability.

These very same challenges were debated in Porto last March 30th, on the National Day of Historical centres.

This event on 22 May is entrance free, but subject to room capacity. The official language of the meeting is English.
