The third session of "Ambiente em Família" municipal programme, "Nights with bats special session" takes place on 23 August at the CEA - Environmental Education Centre, at the Park S. Roque, at 8pm (entrance by Travessa das Antas).

This initiative will have another 2 editions set up by Luzia Sousa of the Rectory of the University of Porto.

This session on 23 August is all about bats and dispelling myths about this nocturnal flying mammals, whilst learning about their living habits. Bats are the only mammals capable of flying like birds.

Nature provides children and adults alike with enriching experiences, by experiencing the great outdoors and thus profiting from an array of social, educational and planetary benefits.

There are 27 bat species in Portugal, all insectivorous, and eight of those are endangered species. Bats usually communicate with each other through high frequency chirps, screeches, and songs, which they use to hunt.

This session is participation free, but subject to availability. Registration is required till 4 pm on the day of the session via dm.gestaoambiental@cm-porto.pt
