Alecrim vs Manjerona [roughly translated as "Rosemary vs Marjoram"] is a contemporary rewriting of the "As Guerras do Alecrim e Manjerona" opera, by António José da Silva (The Jew), which premiered in 1737. On show at the Mosteiro São Bento da Vitória, on 18th October, at 3pm and repeats at 9pm.
This is both an Opera seria, usually called dramma per musica or melodramma serio, and also an opera buffa, the 'comic' opera or commedia dell'arte.
António José da Silva was a passionate critique of the 17th Century society. The "A Jangada Theatre" deals with this timeless heritage and adapt it to reality shows, so common nowadays. This is a type of TV show, where each character is intended to deceived the other competitors and "win the game".
A theatre that shows reality as it is: naked and raw.
