"This is our wonder of the world and it is portrayed in all its glory; the landscape, the ancient link between mankind and nature, the microclimate, the language, the wine, the vineyards, the architecture and the river, the tangible and intangible heritage of a land that we celebrate as we cannot forget the Douro ends here [in Porto], but we also have the Douro inside us, in all it represents and that we stand for", Mayor Rui Moreira.

Porto hosted the exhibition "Douro: an alchemy between air, land and river", starting on 20th February 2019, at the Pasteleira Reservoir (soon to be the Museum of the History of the City), and it remained on display until the end of August 2019, as it was particular popular with the public.

That important display is now immortalized in print. The book is titled "Douro [DWR]" and includes the exhibition featured at Pasteleira reservoir, which had previously been on show at "la Cité du Vin", in Bordeaux, France. The official presentation of the publication was held at the Porto Wine Museum, on 10th October, at 9.30pm, which was attended by Mayor Rui Moreira.

This is a very comprehensive book; not only does it include the curators' views on their exhibit - Nuno Faria and Eglantina Monteiro wrote about their exhibition and named their text "Celebração de um Rio", ["Celebration of a River", free translation] - but also the interpellations by invited keynote speakers to the Round Table "Douro: landscape partaking", free translation], which are part of the writing of art history, as it is quite fair to call it that way.

These and other features we invite you to discover by browsing and flipping through the book.

The exhibit, curated by anthropologist Eglantina Monteiro and artistic director Nuno Faria, showcased Porto and the Douro Region in all its might; the very same exhibition that had been officially inaugurated on 4th October 2018 in Bordeaux, France, by Alain Juppé, Mayor of Bordeaux and former Prime Minister of France, and Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira.

It is worth mentioning that Porto is the first Protected Designation of Origin in the world (sealed by a royal charter in 1756) and the Upper Douro region is in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Landscape List since 2001.

"Douro [DWR]" Book will be on sale at the Porto Municipal Network Museums; Sale price is 25 euros.
