Five thousand Covid-19 tests have been delivered to Hospital of São João in Porto and will complement the new coronavirus testing initiative by Porto City Hall to the senior citizens living in retirement homes.

These tests are EU certified and similar to the ones used by SNS (NHS). These virus tests were shipped from Shanghai, sister city to Porto, under the donation of medical supplies by Fosun Foundation and Gestifute.

The testing is done in nursing homes by two Health Centres in Porto, and last 29th March it kicked off in the eastern part of Porto. In the meantime, testing has also begun in the west part of the city.

This testing initiative, presented by Porto City Hall to Hospital of São João in Porto, enables laboratory testing for the respiratory coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) both to the elder population and to assistance workers to detect the presence of virus for population surveillance.

Concurrently, Porto City Hall deployed two venues to accommodate those who are not infected but are in need of a suitable domiciliary response at the city's Youth Hostel and the Seminar of Vilar.

Also in place is the Mission Hospital that is being assembled at the SuperBock Arena - Pavilhão Rosa Mota, which will receive asymptomatic patients that have no familiar backing.

This way, Porto City Hall is protecting the most vulnerable population in this pandemic.

The five thousand kits have been delivered to Hospital of São João in Porto on 31st March, by NVending, which offered specialized transport in this type of pharmaceutical product.
