Architect Issa Diabaté, based in Côte d'Ivoire, opens the International Conference Cycle "Contemporary Architecture Contexts: 5 Continents", on 28 February. This is an initiative of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) and its duration will extend to the coming months.

The cycle is entrance free and its main purpose is to "debate contemporary national thought within the international scene", providing a framework of debate and open dialogue on how different geographies and cultures have "different approaches in connection to the same topics". Thus, the event is attended by a speaker/architect of each of the five continents.

The opening session is scheduled for 5 pm on 28 February, at the Fernando Távora Auditorium, in FAUP, and renowned architect Issa Diabaté, whose architectural practice takes into consideration climatological and social concerns, will present his way of "developing more balanced alternative models regarding the future role of cities and metropolitan areas in Côte d'Ivoire".

The cycle will continue on 22 March with architect from Oceania Paul Owen, followed by Rick Joy, from America, on 11 April; Li Xiaodong, from Asia will present a lecture on 18 April; and David Chipperfield, from Europe will give his lecture on a date to be announced shortly.

All the conferences will be held in English, without interpretation services.

Entrance is free, but subject to room capacity.
