The University of Porto celebrates the "Magusto Internacional" with roasted chestnuts and Portuguese traditional music, on 13th November, at 4.30pm, in the Rectory.

While enjoying a tasty roasted chestnut, rejoice with the performances by the Dancing and Singing Ethnographic Group of the U.Porto (NEFUP) and the "Pauliteiros Group of Miranda" of the Porto University Choral Society.

The UP welcomes all international students under mobility programmes such as the Erasmus+, and all the students that will be leaving the UP for their overseas study period, this second semester.

The Magusto (roasting chestnuts in a fire) is a popular day celebrated in Portugal and in some areas of northern Spain, such as Galicia, Cantabria, Asturias and the provinces of León, Zamora and Salamanca and Cáceres (Las Hurdes). It has also spread internationally as chestnut party, which is celebrated in November (end of October).

It is also a party of Celtic roots (the Gaelic Samhain), celebrated as a ritual of purification, healing, remembering ancestors, attending mass or visiting the local healer.

It should be highlighted that the UP is estimated to surpass the six thousand international students that take part in the Erasmus mobility scheme, thus breaking all the records regarding students and researchers mobility programmes.

The University of Porto is one of the most favoured institutions by international graduates and "there has been a continuous rise of students in search for an international experience in the University of Porto, and also international researchers", officials from Porto University enhance, "and the quality of student hosting in the U.Porto, as well as the safe, cosmopolitan and lively environment of the city are no strangers to this ongoing increase".
