The School of Arts of the Catholic University of Porto hosts a seminar on the new trends in cinema, in the framework of the debate "On Cinema - Spring Seminar", on 23 and 24 May.

The shift of paradigm boosts the search for new ways of communicating in order to access the "New Cinema" trend; thus, it is necessary to adopt new methodologies to study these new languages and to reflect on film culture and its evolution throughout the years.

The seminar will be attended by several experts, researchers and artists. Lectures and debate will focus on issues such as "the relationship between Cinema and Arts", "the new ways of contemporary Cinema" and the "Film-essay".

The keynote speaker of the 23 May is Ros Gray - professor at Goldsmiths, University of London - which will lecture on the short film "Deep Above", by Adam Chodzko's, and the film "Forest Law", by Ursula Biemann's. In turn, François Bonenfant will approach the New Cinema and Le Fresnoy - a Centre of Artistic and Audiovisual training in France.

Artists Susana Sousa Dias and Tatiana Macedo will also attend the event and participate in the debates themed "The documentary as an experience of thought on truth", "Repetition and looping as researching tools in audiovisual digital studies", or "Cinema and comic strips: rethinking the possibilities of media combination", among other.

The seminar is organised by the CITAR - Research Centre for Science and Technology in Art and the Margarida Losa Institute for Comparative Literature of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto.

The event is participation free.
