Career Summit goes digital to debate job market challenges amidst the ongoing pandemic

The 3rd edition of the Career Summit joined in a digital format on 28th October to debate what are the most significant challenges facing the labour market and what can be done in regards to career guidance. 

This event is annually promoted by Porto City Hall, through the "Cidade das Profissões" [Cité des Métiers], and the focus was on "The Professional of the future and the future of work". Several panels feature this fully online edition of the Career summit, approaching the impact that Covid-19 has had in the job market, the role of technologies regarding team management and inclusion of people with disabilities in the market place.

"Institutions, companies are facing challenges that were never seen before, and this brings challenges, adding to the many that already existed before the pandemic. Our reality has altered overnight", highlighted councillor for Housing and Social Cohesion, Fernando Paulo during the Career Summit opening session.

In this context, the councillor furthers, "it is important not to forget the youth in a NEET situation (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), the homeless, the ethnic minorities, migrants, older people, people with pre-existent health conditions, among others, enhancing the "collaborative work that the Municipality of Porto has been implementing, as well as the dissemination of best practices".

It is worth mentioning that the impacts Covid-19 is causing among the youth and youth organisations, namely unemployment and job insecurity, mental health risks, restrictions and new ways of socializing were under discussion in the latest Youth municipal Council.
