From 14 to 16 October 2016, the third MICAR - International Exhibition of Anti-Racist Cinema is back to the Rivoli, the Municipal Theatre of Porto.

The showcase is promoted by the SOS Racism Movement and aims to stimulate reflection and debate on this issue in order to avoid the indifference of society.

According to the organization, in a press release, it is through cinema that one looks at "discrimination, at racism and xenophobia, to the issue of refugees in Europe and the Middle East,  to colonialism and post-colonialism, to violence on Romani communities and to the difficulties experienced by millions of migrants in various parts of the planet."

The MICAR has a place for the youngest on Friday, October 14, with the screening of two films: "The Club of the Ugly Children" (2012), by Jonathan Elbers, and "Samba" (2014) by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano.

Also on Friday, a photography exhibition will open at Rivoli, on the project that SOS Racism has been developing in 2016, entitled "We do not swallow crow (we don't swallow our pride)", which focuses on the issue of the use of frogs in shop windows for the purpose of removing elements of Romani communities. At the opening, you will see the award-winning short film by Leonor Teles, "Ballad of a Batrachian".

More than a dozen films will be displayed at MICAR, most notably "The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975" (2011), by Göran Olsson, the award-winning "Lampedusa in Winter," by Jakob Brossmann and "The Walnut Tree" (2015, absolute premiere in Portugal), by Ammar Aziz.

There will be a return to the classics, like the movies "Fear Eats the Soul" (1974), by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and "The Human Pyramid" (1961), by Jean Rouch. The event will be attended by the Hungarian director Eszter Hajdú for a debate on his 2013 film, "Judgment in Hungary," which will be shown on Saturday, October 15, at 21:30 hours.

As always, all sessions are free, but subject to prior ticket collection at the box office of the Municipal Theatre of Porto - Rivoli.
