The Miró collection arrived in Porto, the city where it will remain permanently and unveils to the public, for the first time, a set of works of the surrealist painter.

The official opening of the exhibition "Joan Miró: Materiality and Metamorphosis" was marked by the words of the President of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy, who has classified it as one of the "major cultural events this year in Europe and that the work of Miró could not be in a better place and in better hands. " A unanimous opinion with the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to reaffirm once again that "Porto is the capital of freedom and just as the artist himself, an example of culture and freedom."

The prime minister stressed in his speech that "Porto will gain a collection but the collection gains much in being handed over to the Porto City Hall."

The exhibition curated by Robert Lubar Messeri and expository project by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, brings together seventy-eight paintings, drawings, sculptures, collages and tapestries of the collection covering six decades (1924-1981) of artistic activity.

The visual thinking of Miró, the way he works with sensations ranging from the tactile and optical and the development processes of his works can be seen in detail at Casa de Serralves until 28 January 2017.
